SEPTEMBER 2009

 11 - Gary Bolding: Itching & Scratching - 20 Years at Stetson University

This exhibition is a survey of works produced since Bolding came to teach at Stetson University in the fall of 1989.  Opening reception is on Friday, September 11, 6-8 pm in both the Duncan Gallery of Art (Sampson Hall) and in the Hand Art Center.  Exhibition continues through October 30, 2009 in the Duncan Gallery of Art (Sampson Hall), and through December 3, 2009 in the Hand Art Center.

11 - Oscar Bluemner: the Making of an American Modernist Painter

This selection of works from the Vera Bluemner Kouba Collection follows the course of Bluemner's transformation from German to American, from traditional representation to modernist abstraction and expressionism, and from architect to painter. Opening reception is on Friday, September 11, 6-8 pm in the Hand Art Center.  Exhibition continues through December 3, 2009.

17 - Sullivan Biannual Faculty Reading.  Mark Powell, Lori Snook, Andy Dehnart, Terri Witek. Introduction of new Sullivan Scholars.  Duncan Gallery of Art, 7 pm, followed by a reception in the Hand Art Center.  Books will be available for purchase.

30 - "Oscar Bluemner: the Making of an American Modernist Painter."  LECTURE.  Curator's talk by Dr. Roberta Smith Favis.  7 pm, Instructional Media Center room 25.  Sponsored by Stetson's Artist and Lecturers Committee.

 OCTOBER 2009

14 - "Alfred Stieglitz: Prophet of Modernism."  LECTURE.  Dr. James Murphy, Adjunct Professor of Art History.  7 pm, Instructional Media Center room 25.  Sponsored by Stetson's Artist and Lecturers Committee.

27 - Gary Bolding: Itching & Scratching.   SLIDE LECTURE AND GALLERY TALK in conjunction with his exhibition.  Begins in Hand Art Center at 7 pm. 

30 - Gary Bolding: Itching & Scratching exhibition ends in the Duncan Gallery of Art.  (Bolding's works in the Hand Art Center are on exhibition until December 3rd.)

NOVEMBER 2009

  3 - "Colored Expression Instead of Impression: Oscar Bluemner and German Modernism."  LECTURE.  Dr. Patricia McDonnell, Director of the Ulrich Museum of Art, Witchita, Kansas, and author of Painting Berlin Stories: Marsden Hartley, Oscar Bluemner and the First American Avant-Garde in Expressionist Berlin.  7 pm, Rinker Auditorium/Lynn Business Center.   Sponsored by Stetson's Artist and Lecturers Committee.
