Throughout the Spring semester, Stetson University will explore the importance of free inquiry and expression to the future of democracy in and beyond the United States. Events will include speakers, panel discussions and civil dialogues.

Cultural credit will be available for every event.

Students, faculty and staff witnessed democracy in action with the inauguration of the 47th President, Donald Trump. Discussion was be led by Stetson Votes, a non-partisan group promoting student voter turnout.

A panel on institutional neutrality: what it is, why it matters, and when institutions should take a stand. Panelists included Melinda Hall, Mike Eskenazi, Mayhill Fowler, Carmen Johnson, Katy Webb and moderated by Provost Elizabeth Skomp.

The Alexander Hamilton Society hosted a Debate with critical questions regarding America's position as a global leader and foreign policy with Stetson faculty, and distinguished guest Paul Miller.

Addressing a range of sensitive subjects, the "Things We Don't Talk About At Dinner" series invites you to navigate challenging conversations collectively. Join us for a series of interactive sessions where we'll delve into topics including politics, race, gender and sexuality, and religion. Through engaging in discussions over shared meals, you'll develop the skills to converse effectively about these complex themes.

Annual Patrick L. Smith Model United States Senate

March 20-22, CUB, Carr Stetson Room

Sponsored by the Stetson Political Science Department, this annual event invites students from Stetson and other institutions to portray actual U.S. Senators and learn how one of our most important democratic institutions, the United States Senate, works. The Model Senate is a true democracy in action program spread over several days. Registration is required to participate.
