Read about the waitlist and be prepared if you need or want to waitlist a course.

If a course is closed but seats are available on the waitlist, you will be offered the option to add yourself. You will be able to see your position on the waitlist. Most courses have a first-in/first-out waitlist.

Once you are on a waitlist and are offered a seat in a closed course, you will be notified through your official Stetson email address that you are eligible to enroll in the course. You have 24 hours before the email is sent to log in to My Stetson. At that point, to register for the course, click the drop-down box by the waitlisted course and choose the register option. If you do not register for the course in this time frame, your seat will be given to the next person on the waitlist. Be diligent and check your email daily to see whether you are offered an opportunity to add to the course.

You can only waitlist for one section at a time. You will have to drop the current section on which you are waitlisted before you can add a different section to the waitlist. Once you fall, you will lose your spot on the waitlist. Think carefully and check your schedule before changing sections.

You can view the number of students on the waitlist by going to the Class Search. The WL Act (Waitlist Actual) column shows the number of students on the waitlist. Take a moment to look at other sections and see if you can improve your position on a waitlist by registering for a different section. Check carefully before switching; once you drop from a section, you lose your spot on the waitlist.

If you are registered full-time, you can be on a waitlist. If you are offered a seat and have already registered for 16 hours or more, you must drop a course before clicking the drop-down menu of the waitlisted course and registering.

Quick Facts:

  • You can either register or waitlist a course, but not both.
  • Any registration restrictions that apply to a class also apply to the class waitlist.
  • You cannot waitlist on a section with a time conflict with a course on your schedule.

The following hints and tips will help make registration easier:

  1. Make sure you can log in to My Stetson before your registration time.
  2. All students will have a Meet With Advisor Hold placed on their registration.  The Registration Hold is removed only when you have met with your advisor.
  3. Use the Class Schedule Search tool to view a list of classes offered for the term you'll be registering for. Please note that if the list is preliminary, it can change without warning, so check often.
  4. Only your faculty advisor or department chair can remove your Meet With Advisor Hold to register.
  5. Know your registration time. It's based on the number of hours you've earned and does not include the hours you're registered for during the current semester.
  6. A student who meets certain criteria can choose to register for 20 credits. If you meet this criterion, you can complete the web form, which is also located on the Registrar's web page under Forms. The Registrar's Office will contact you when you can register for the additional credits.
  7. If you want to take 20 credits and do not meet the criteria, or want to take more than 20 credits, you will need to request an overload using the Overload Form before registration.
  8. Check your courses for prerequisites. You must have the required prerequisites to register.
  9. Independent study requests require signatures and should be submitted to the Office of the Registrar once signatures are received.
  10. You will need permission if you plan to register for a course in which you used course exclusion, late dropped, withdrawn, or are planning to retake. For assistance, contact the Office of the Registrar at 386-822-7140 or email [email protected].
  11. If a class has a waitlist and you wish to be added, please select the "Wait List" action from the class registration. Click Waitlist FAQ for further information.
  12. The Office of the Registrar can be reached via phone at 386-822-7140, Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m., or via email at [email protected].

Student Resources

Stetson University recognizes the achievement of students who have completed rigorous pre-college courses through the Cambridge Advanced International Certificate of Education Diploma program. Students earning an AICE Diploma with "Distinction" will be granted sophomore status and guaranteed seven-course units or 28 academic credits determined based on their examination scores.  Students earning the AICE Diploma with "Merit" may earn course units for both Advanced Subsidiary Level and Advanced (A) Level examinations with an AICE score of C or higher. See the Registrar's Office website for specific credit allocations. In general, a score of C on an Advanced Level exam earns 1 unit (4 credits); scores of B or A earn 2 units (eight credits) in some disciplines and a score of C or higher on an Advanced Subsidiary Level exam earns 1 unit (4 credits). Students taking AS and A Level exams in the same subject area may only receive credit for one exam.

Students who have not earned the AICE Diploma at the "Merit" or "Distinction" level may earn course units for scores of C and above on individual Advanced Level examinations. See the Registrar's Office website for specific credit allocations. Scores on individual Advanced Subsidiary Level examinations, absent the AICE awarding of "Merit" or "Distinction," are not eligible for the credit but are valuable to faculty advisors in determining appropriate placement in Stetson courses.  Stetson welcomes students who have taken the "Global Perspectives and Research Report" (GPR) curriculum from Cambridge. The independence of thought, critical thinking, and research and inquiry skills developed in the GPR curriculum are highly valued components of a Stetson education. Credit will be awarded individually for the AICE score on the GPR report.

Stetson allows a maximum of eight units (32 credits) to be awarded based on approved pre-college examinations. Credit is not awarded for two examinations (such as AP and AICE) in the same subject.

Stetson University allows a maximum of 11.25 units (45 credits) to be awarded based on approved pre-college examinations. Credit is not awarded in the same subject for two examinations (such as AP and IB).

Stetson University recognizes the achievement of students who have completed rigorous pre-college courses through the International Baccalaureate Program. Students earning the IB Diploma with 30 or more points will be granted sophomore status and guaranteed seven-course units or 28 academic credits determined based on their IB scores.

Students earning the IB Diploma with 24-29 points may earn course units for standard and higher level examinations with a score of five or higher. Students who have not earned the IB Diploma may earn course units for scores of five and above on individual higher-level examinations. See the IB Credit Chart for specific credit allocations. Generally, a score of five on a higher-level exam earns one unit (four credits); scores of six or seven earn two units (eight credits) in some disciplines. Scores on individual standard-level examinations, absent the IB Diploma, are not eligible for credit but are valuable to faculty advisors in determining appropriate placement in Stetson University courses.

Graduation Information:

  • Stetson only has one commencement ceremony per year, though we have three graduation dates: Summer, Fall and Spring.
  • Students must apply to graduate and should do so in the semester before the semester they plan on graduating. This will alert their advisor and help the student make note of items still needed to graduate.
  • Graduation requirements are the responsibility of the student.
  • Complete the application for graduation. This application is also located on the student's MyStetson dashboard by searching for "Application."
  • The commencement website provides more information regarding ordering regalia and announcements.
  • Spring 2024-commencement program checklist - This page is currently in progress

Early Participation in Commencement

Stetson allows students who are graduating in the summer or fall of any given year to petition to walk early in the May commencement ceremony of that year.

Participation in the ceremony does not imply that the student has completed a course of study. No degree is awarded until all degree requirements are completed.

Students who wish to participate early in commencement must apply to graduate for the semester they plan to graduate - not the semester in which the commencement is held. For example, if you are graduating in the summer and want to walk early in May, you MUST apply to graduate in the summer and then complete the petition to walk early in the May commencement.   Please review the academic calendar for application deadlines.

By the first day of final exams for the spring semester, students must be in good financial standing with the university.

Below are the guidelines and there are no exceptions - if you do not meet the minimum criteria to walk, your request will be denied:

Undergraduate students must be within two units (8 credits) of completing a degree program, all cultural credits must be completed, and no Latin Honors will be awarded at commencement.

Graduate students must have completed or be within one course of completing the degree program and/or one-degree requirement. Participation in the ceremony does not imply that the student has earned a degree. No degree is awarded until all degree requirements are completed.

Please complete this web form ONLY if you wish to receive permission to participate early in commencement. The Registrar's Office will notify you of the outcome of your request.

Deadlines and Fees

The $100 graduation fee is charged to your student account. Please note that the graduation fee is required regardless of whether or not you participate in the commencement ceremony.

Diplomas

  • Diplomas will be mailed to all graduated students two to three weeks after graduation. Graduated students will receive an email about the diploma once it is sent.  Please note that this time frame is an estimation.
  • Majors and/or minors are not printed on undergraduate students' diplomas.
  • Students receiving master's degrees do not receive academic honors; therefore, no honors are printed on diplomas.
  • Only Latin Honors for undergraduate students are printed on diplomas.

Final Transcripts

  • Final official transcripts can be requested ahead of time with the notation of holding the transcript for grades and degrees.
  • Effective with the December 2017 graduation, one official final transcript with the degree noted will be mailed to all graduating students to their diploma mailing address—no exceptions.
  • This transcript will be mailed approximately one month after the graduation date.
