Meet the Environmental Fellows

Issah Abdullah

Major: Computer Science

Class of 2028

Issah is a freshman at Stetson University from Kumasi, Ghana, popularly known as “The Garden City of West Africa”. Growing up, he had to use his skills as a software developer for environmental activism and to also address the myriad environmental issues faced by his community. As a Hatter and a Sustainability fellow, Issah is excited to combine his passion in Computer Science and Environmental Science to promote environmental sustainability on campus.

After Stetson, Issah hopes to be at the forefront of technological innovation that will contribute to promoting sustainability and solving critical issues worldwide.

Avery Brooks

Majors: Environmental Science and Biology

Class of 2025

Avery is a dedicated environmentalist currently serving as an environmental fellow while continuing her impactful work with the Campus Compact Action Corps (CCAC). She has been deeply involved in campus-based and community-led climate action initiatives regarding sustainability practices and climate change awareness. Her roles allow her to drive environmental change on campus and within the wider community.

In 2023, Avery co-founded Hatter’s Closet, a clothing donation and thrifting project. The project supports The Neighborhood Center, a local organization dedicated to aiding the homeless. Through this initiative, Avery has successfully combined her passion for sustainability with a commitment to social justice, raising funds and awareness to support those in need. She continues to leverage her experiences to champion environmental causes and foster meaningful change both locally and beyond.

Phoenix Medley

Major: Environmental Studies

Class of 2027

Phoenix began working with the Fellows in 2023 at the start of her Freshman year at Stetson. She has a passion for environmental equity and urban planning. As a part of the Fellows, she hopes to create a local impact on the DeLand community as well as grow her knowledge of sustainability. 

At Stetson, she hopes to connect with organizations on campus, as well as the student body at large, to better understand the disparities on campus and work to create attainable solutions. She plans to use her experience in creative writing and graphic design to create content that uplifts the environment and those who live within it.

Sugeeth Sathish

Major: Finance

Class of 2025

Sugeeth joined Stetson University in 2021 with an interest in business and a passion for sustainability. Joining the Environmental Fellows in the Fall of 2022, Sugeeth has begun to explore how to calculate return on investment (ROI) on the Revolving Green Fund and begin projects with the Business School.

Sugeeth hopes to combine his interests in finance and sustainability to help the University on its path to zero emissions. Following his time at Stetson University, he plans to support his local community in building a greener environment.
