SPREES Program
Stetson's Program in Russian, East European and Eurasian Studies (SPREES) trains students to analyze and interpret the territory, people, history, language and cultural practices of the Eurasian landmass from a multidisciplinary perspective.
SPREES students become proficient in the Russian language by taking a broad array of courses at Stetson University and by spending a semester or summer in language study in the Russian-speaking world, including places like Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Poland, and Georgia.
Stetson Ukraine Initiative
Following Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022, Stetson University launched the Stetson Ukraine Initiative to support the people of Ukraine during this horrific time. By the Fall 2022 semester, Stetson University raised funds to host four undergraduate students and one faculty member from Ukraine for the academic year. The initiative continued its commitment to provide monetary support to the four students from Ukraine during the following academic year and remains dedicated to providing moral support to the people of Ukraine.
SPREES is heavily involved with the Stetson Ukraine Initiative which is co-chaired by two SPREES faculty members, Elizabeth Plantan and Martin Blackwell.
