Program Description:

This is an experiential clinical course structured to provide students an opportunity to pursue an approved field experience in a location outside of our traditional clinical courses. This course is offered during the summer to allow a limited number of students an opportunity to pursue a student practitioner or remote C.L.I. clinical experience. Students must earn a certain number of field hours based on their credit enrollment and attend a weekly virtual course. The virtual class will be cohesive in that the students will have relatively similar (and therefore mutually relatable practice experiences, within the guardrails of student practitioner rules including Chapter 11 of the Rules Regulating the Florida Bar and other movements across the country regarding practical skills and minimum competence standards relevant for admission into the profession.

The virtual class will incorporate broadly applicable content to reinforce skills and values relevant to students’ first forays into practice, including: the study of ethical rules pertaining to supervision, confidentiality, and conflicts of interest; provide some training leading to technical competence related to reoccurring lawyering tasks and skills, including the use of technology. Students will explicitly acknowledge and build the necessary habits for effective cross-cultural lawyering; the five stages of reflective practice and the brain science behind cultivating happiness in practice. Students will share experiences through clinical rounds and reflect upon their own professional identity.
