Associate Director of Choral Activities

Pingyi Song serves as the Associate Director of Choral Activities at Stetson University. At Stetson, she welcomes students from music field and outside of music fields across campus and leads many successful performances and concerts with our treble ensemble, Stetson University Chorale and Tenor-Bass ensemble Stetson Hatter Choir. She enjoys working and mentoring students in areas such as basic conducting, advanced choral conducting and research in choral literature, gender issues in choral music, and choral music performance practice.

Biography

Pingyi Song is an active conductor, clinician, and music educator for multiple professional, collegiate, and community choirs in the United States and China. As an original Chinese musician, she is dedicated to promoting cultural exchange between Western Music and Eastern Asian Music. 

Song's world premiere performance with the UNC-Greensboro Chamber Singers was selected as a National Finalist for the American Prize 2022 Ernst Bacon Memorial Award for the Performance of American Music, and National Semi-Finalist for the American Prize 2022 Dale Warland Award in Choral Conducting. Her most recent research studies Gender Issues and Introduction to Choral Literature by Eastern Asian Female Composers and A New Approach to Mandarin Chinese Lyric Diction in Choral Music were invited to present at various National and International Conferences such as the 2024 SRCS (Symposium on Research in Choral Singing), 2023 ACDA National Conference (American Choral Directors Association), NCCO 10th National Conference (National Collegiate Choral Organization), and the 2023 ACMI (Asian Classical Music Initiative) Conferences. Song serves as one of the National Board Members for NCCO (2024-27), and Affinity Group Leader for International Students and Faculty at NCCO. Song also serves as Chair of World Music & Cultures and a Board member of South Carolina ACDA. Previously, Song served as the Director of Choral Activities at Coker University, S.C.
